Phlebotomy students will encounter various tests and exams throughout their training period. As with any training program, you must successfully pass the exams provided to be sure that you have mastered the information presented in the program. NCCT Phlebotomy Practice Test

Two certifying agencies are the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). You can get a 90-day access pass to the ASCP’s online practice exams for a small cost of about $25.00. This may be well worth it to practice taking the exam and to gain confidence before you take the big test. These practice exams have 50 questions each and there are five unique tests. You can also receive review materials such as practice tests and review books through the NCCT. The NCCT has a few different packages each ranging in price from $15.00 to $60.00.

You may also want to purchase a study guide. The Phlebotomy Exam Review (3rd edition) by Ruth E. McCall and Cathee M Tankersley can be found on and it is highly recommended for students of phlebotomy. This guide can prepare phlebotomy students for 10 potential national certification exams, including the tests from the ASCP and NCCT. This study guide meets the standards set by OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). It is written in outline format and it contains over 800 multiple choice questions along with the correct answer and an explanation for each question.
